First off, MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) sounds like a good idea. It’s smooth, cheap and readily available – just like your ex. Make no mistake, just like your ex – this stuff is toxic. It is made from ground up cardboard and formaldehyde that will off gas every time that it gets cut, damaged or when your dog chews on it. Look it up.

From spills, pets, or even mopping the floor it will swell up like a cardboard box left out in the rain. Not to mention how easy it is to damage MDF. “My husband can fix that” you say? Sure, but is he bringing years of on-the-job expertise or is he going to the box store and buying additional cheap MDF because “He thinks it will be fine”.
